Centered around the extinct volcano Mount Elgon, on the border with Kenya.
Known for waterfalls, caves, and scenic hiking trails. Mount Elgon National Park combines dramatic volcanic scenery with rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. Once Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Elgon’s vast caldera and slopes offer spectacular hikes through montane forests, bamboo zones, and open moorlands.
The park is famous for its ancient caves — once used by pastoralists — and its cascading waterfalls that pour down steep cliffs. Trekkers can summit Wagagai Peak for sweeping views that stretch deep into Uganda and Kenya.
